Summary
Having a documentation strategy and culture is critical for any team and business to ensure the institutional knowledge of how the system works, why was is set up, how was it changed and who uses it are not lost over time.
Many organizations accumulate crippling technical debt because they lack the understanding of their own systems. That causes fear of change and often leads them to try building new solutions from scratch rather than reusing or building on the old ones. With the right tools and approach these problems can be very easily rectified.
