Data modeling

Summary

In this course you will learn how to draw Entity Relationship Diagrams (ERDs) and use them to design and analyze your Org architecture.

ERDs are the primary tool for modelling the real world entities and relationships of the problem space that you are thinking about. This logical model of the world is the foundation that allows you to design the database structures (such as Salesforce) that underpin the applications that you build.

Learning objectives

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  1. Read and draw Entity Relationship Diagrams;
  2. Use Entity Relationship Diagrams to understand when to create record types and when to just create picklists;
  3. Use Entity Relationship Diagrams to identify unnecessary or duplicate objects;
  4. Know how to use Elements to draw ERDs

Prerequisites

Before you start mapping any diagrams in Elements you need:

  1. Editor rights in the Space
  2. Editor rights on a particular map or diagram
